Target Information
This gene encodes a member of the A-kinase anchoring protein family, which binds to a regulatory subunit of cAMP-dependent protein kinase A and targets the enzyme to specific subcellular compartments. AKAPs share a common RII-binding domain but have distinct targeting motifs directing PKA to different intracellular locations. Three alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described; additional variants may exist but are not fully characterized.
