Target Information

Protein Z (PROZ) is a vitamin K-dependent plasma glycoprotein (62 kDa, 396 amino acids).
It contains four domains: a Gla-rich region, two EGF-like domains, and a trypsin-like domain.
Although structurally related to serine proteases (factors VII, IX, X, and protein C), it lacks catalytic activity.
Protein Z participates in the coagulation cascade, aiding degradation of factor Xa via protein Z-related protease inhibitor (ZPI).
Deficiency has been variably associated with thrombosis or bleeding tendencies.
