Target Information
The LIM homeobox transcription factor 1 (LMX1A) belongs to the LIM-homeodomain family, which plays an essential role in pattern formation during development.
LMX1A binds an A/T-rich sequence and functions as a transcriptional activator of the insulin gene promoter in the nucleus.
During embryonic development, LMX1A is expressed along the neuraxis and contributes to roof plate formation of the vertebrae.
It is crucial for dopamine neuron differentiation, while the related LMX1B is involved in both development and survival of these cells.
LMX1A may serve as a useful biomarker or risk factor in tumor aggressiveness.
