Target Information
Lipolytic enzymes are essential for mobilizing fatty acids from triglyceride stores in adipose tissue. Dysfunctional lipolysis can affect energy homeostasis and contribute to obesity and insulin resistance. Adipose triglyceride lipase (ATGL) catalyzes the initial step in triglyceride hydrolysis and works coordinately with hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL) to catabolize stored triglycerides. ATGL is highly expressed in adipose tissue of mice and humans, showing high specificity for triacylglycerol and association with lipid droplets.
