Target Information

Initiation of transcription from protein-coding genes in eukaryotes is a complex process requiring RNA polymerase II and basal transcription factors. Binding of TFIID (TBP) to the TATA box initiates formation of a multiprotein complex containing TFIIA, TFIIB, TFIIE, TFIIF, and TFIIH.
TFIIH (also known as BTF2) is a multisubunit transcription/DNA repair factor with several enzymatic activities. The core of TFIIH includes five subunits: p89 (XPB/ERCC3), p62, p52, p44, and p34. Additional subunits include p80 (XPD/ERCC2) and a kinase complex composed of Cdk7, cyclin H, and MAT1. Both p89 and p80 possess ATP-dependent helicase activity, while p62, p52, and p44 are involved in nucleotide excision repair.
