Target Information
Norepinephrine Transporter (NET, or noradrenaline transporter, NAT)
Monoamine transporter responsible for the reuptake of noradrenaline from the synapse back into vesicles for storage. Also transports dopamine to a lesser degree.
Decreased NET levels have been observed in the locus coeruleus of patients with major depression.
Cocaine, amphetamines, and antidepressants such as SNRIs and TCAs increase noradrenaline by inhibiting NET.
Deficits in the NET gene have also been associated with ADHD.
