Target Information
SRC is a cytoplasmic tyrosine kinase and proto-oncogene involved in the regulation of embryonic development and cell growth. It regulates growth and differentiation of eukaryotic cells and associates with various cell surface receptors to facilitate signal transduction. SRC also participates in cytoskeletal organization, cell cycle regulation, and apoptosis.
In humans, the SRC gene is located on chromosome 20. The enzyme’s activity is modulated by phosphorylation at two tyrosine residues—Tyr416 and Tyr527—which have opposing effects: Tyr416 phosphorylation upregulates activity, while Tyr527 phosphorylation inhibits it. Mutations in SRC may contribute to malignant progression of colon cancer. Two transcript variants encoding the same SRC protein have been identified.
