Target Information
Histones are basic nuclear proteins responsible for the nucleosome structure of chromosomal fiber in eukaryotes. The nucleosome consists of approximately 146 bp of DNA wrapped around an octamer composed of pairs of the four core histones (H2A, H2B, H3, and H4). Chromatin fibers are further compacted through interaction of linker histone H1 with DNA between nucleosomes, forming higher-order structures.
This gene is intronless and encodes a replication-dependent histone H3 family member. Transcripts lack polyA tails and contain a palindromic termination element. The gene is located in the large histone gene cluster on chromosome 6p22-p21.3.
