Target Information
Histones are basic nuclear proteins responsible for the nucleosome structure of chromosomal fiber in eukaryotes. Approximately 146 bp of DNA wraps around a nucleosome, an octamer composed of pairs of the four core histones (H2A, H2B, H3, and H4). The chromatin fiber is further compacted through interaction with linker histone H1 to form higher-order chromatin structures.
This gene is intronless and encodes a replication-dependent histone H4 family member. Transcripts lack polyA tails and contain a palindromic termination element. Located in a histone cluster on chromosome 1, this gene represents the centromeric copy among duplicated histone genes.
