Target Information

Histones are basic nuclear proteins responsible for the nucleosome structure of chromosomal fibers in eukaryotes. Approximately 146 bp of DNA wraps around a nucleosome, an octamer composed of pairs of core histones (H2A, H2B, H3, and H4). Chromatin fibers are further compacted via interactions between linker histone H1 and DNA between nucleosomes.
This gene, part of the histone H3 family, is intronless and replication-dependent. Transcripts lack polyA tails and instead contain a palindromic termination element. It is located in the large histone gene cluster on chromosome 6p22–p21.3.
