Target Information
PDGFRB is a receptor tyrosine kinase implicated in atherogenesis and cell transformation by the SIS oncogene. These growth factors act as mitogens for cells of mesenchymal origin. The growth factor bound to a receptor monomer determines whether the receptor forms a homodimer or heterodimer, composed of PDGF receptor alpha and beta polypeptides.
The PDGFRB gene is located on chromosome 5 near genes for granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor and macrophage colony-stimulating factor receptor, which may be involved in the 5-q syndrome.
A translocation between chromosomes 5 and 12 that fuses PDGFRB (CD140b) with the ETV6 leukemia gene results in chronic myeloproliferative disorder with eosinophilia.
