Target Information
Apoptosis (programmed cell death) is related to many diseases, such as cancer. It is triggered by various stimuli including TNF family members and inhibited by IAP proteins.
IAP proteins form a conserved gene family including IAP, XIAP/ILP-1/MIHA, and Livin/KIAP that bind and inhibit specific proteases.
ILP-2 (IAP-like protein-2) is a novel member of the IAP family, highly homologous to ILP-1 but encoded by a distinct gene expressed solely in testis.
Unlike ILP-1, ILP-2 does not inhibit Fas or TNF-induced apoptosis, but potently inhibits apoptosis induced by Bax overexpression or coexpression of caspase-9 with Apaf-1.
ILP-2 interacts with processed caspase-9, suggesting restricted specificity for caspase-9.
