Western blot analysis of MA1-014 specifically detects SOX2 protein at approximately 36 kDa in the nucleus of human and mouse embryonal carcinoma and iPS cells.
Target Information
SOX2 is an intronless gene encoding a member of the SRY-related HMG-box (SOX) family of transcription factors. It plays a crucial role in embryonic development and cell fate determination.
The SOX2 protein is essential for stem-cell maintenance in the central nervous system and regulates gene expression in the stomach.
Located within an intron of the SOX2 overlapping transcript (SOX2OT), SOX2 can act as a transcriptional activator through complex formation with other proteins.
Mutations in SOX2 are associated with severe eye malformations such as bilateral anophthalmia, optic nerve hypoplasia, and syndromic microphthalmia.
