Target Information
UVRAG (UV radiation resistance associated gene) is predicted to contain a coiled-coil structure and may be metabolically unstable due to a strong PEST domain. It interacts with Beclin 1, activating autophagy and inhibiting tumorigenicity in human colon cancer cells.
The UVRAG gene is located on chromosome 11q13.5 and complements UV sensitivity in xeroderma pigmentosum group C cells. It is well conserved evolutionarily, suggesting an important role in cellular metabolism.
Chromosomal aberrations involving UVRAG are linked to left-right axis malformation, and mutations are associated with colon cancer. The protein is highly expressed in human brain, lung, kidney, and liver.
