Target Information
NTRK2 (TRKB) belongs to the neurotrophic factor family, crucial for development and maintenance of the mammalian nervous system.
It acts as the receptor for brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), regulating short-term synaptic functions and long-term potentiation.
TrkB expression is confined to central and peripheral nervous system tissues.
BDNF and NT-3 induce phosphorylation of TrkB gp145, with BDNF eliciting a stronger response.
TrkB signaling leads to cell differentiation via MAPK pathway activation.
Mutations in TrkB are associated with obesity and mood disorders.
Alternate splice variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
