Target Information
High-density lipoproteins (HDLs) are crucial in cholesterol metabolism, and their plasma concentrations are inversely correlated with atherosclerosis risk.
SR-BI binds HDLs and mediates selective uptake of HDL cholesteryl ester. It is expressed mainly in the liver and steroidogenic tissues and plays a key role in determining plasma lipoprotein cholesterol levels and cholesterol storage in the adrenal gland of mice.
