Target Information

Laminins are extracellular matrix glycoproteins that form a major component of basement membranes. They are involved in processes such as cell adhesion, differentiation, migration, signaling, neurite outgrowth, and metastasis. Their effects are mediated through interactions with cell surface receptors, including integrins and non-integrin laminin-binding proteins.

The RPSA gene encodes a high-affinity laminin receptor (also known as 67 kD laminin receptor, 37 kD laminin receptor precursor (37LRP), or p40 ribosome-associated protein). This receptor is evolutionarily conserved and plays a key biological role. Increased expression has been observed in colon carcinoma and lung cancer cell lines, correlating with invasive and metastatic potential. Multiple pseudogene copies exist, likely derived from retropositional events. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein are known.
