Target Information
ME1 (Malic Enzyme 1) encodes a cytosolic, NADP-dependent enzyme that generates NADPH for fatty acid biosynthesis.
This enzyme catalyzes the reversible oxidative decarboxylation of malate, linking the glycolytic and citric acid cycles.
Expression regulation is complex and can be increased by elevated thyroid hormone levels or higher carbohydrate intake.
