Target Information
Isocitrate dehydrogenases catalyze the oxidative decarboxylation of isocitrate to 2-oxoglutarate. These enzymes belong to two subclasses: one utilizing NAD(+) and the other NADP(+).
Five isocitrate dehydrogenases have been reported: three NAD(+)-dependent (mitochondrial matrix) and two NADP(+)-dependent (one mitochondrial, one cytosolic).
The IDH1 gene encodes the NADP(+)-dependent isocitrate dehydrogenase found in the cytoplasm and peroxisomes, containing the PTS-1 peroxisomal targeting signal sequence.
This enzyme contributes to NADPH regeneration for intraperoxisomal reductions and cytoplasmic NADPH production.
