Target Information
Members of the TNF superfamily regulate immune responses and induce apoptosis.
Two novel members, BAFF (also known as BLyS, TALL-1, THANK, or zTNF4) and APRIL (also known as TALL-2), have been identified.
- BAFF: Acts as a B cell activator, inducing proliferation and immunoglobulin secretion.
- APRIL: Regulates both immunological and non-immunological cell growth.
Three receptors—BCMA, TACI, and BAFF-R—bind BAFF and APRIL.
TACI and its ligands regulate humoral immune responses, activate NF-kappa-B and c-Jun N-terminal kinase, and are implicated in B cell-associated autoimmune diseases.
