Target Information
USP7 (also known as HAUSP) is a ubiquitin-specific protease that removes ubiquitin from its substrates. Ubiquitylation typically regulates protein stability and degradation; thus, HAUSP activity stabilizes substrate proteins.
HAUSP antagonizes Mdm2, an E3 ubiquitin ligase for p53, thereby protecting p53 from degradation. This suggests a potential tumor suppressor role for HAUSP in stabilizing p53 under stress conditions.
Additionally, HAUSP may contribute to oncogenic pathways involving Myc and E1A through p19ARF-dependent or independent mechanisms, offering an alternative means of cellular protection against oncogenic stress.
