Product Specific Information

  • Reconstitute in 100 µL of sterile water.
  • Centrifuge to remove any insoluble material.
  • Specificity: 5HT2C receptor.

Target Information

Serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT) is a neurotransmitter that elicits a wide array of physiological effects by binding to several receptor subtypes, including the 5-HT2 family of seven-transmembrane-spanning, G-protein-coupled receptors, which activate phospholipase C and D signaling pathways.

This gene encodes the 2C subtype of serotonin receptor and its mRNA undergoes multiple RNA editing events, converting adenosine residues to inosines. These edits alter amino acids within the second intracellular loop of the receptor, generating isoforms that differ in G protein interaction and activation of phospholipase C and D signaling cascades. This modulates serotonergic neurotransmission in the central nervous system. Abnormal patterns of 5-HT2C editing have been reported in depressed suicide victims.
