This affinity-purified antibody is directed against human c-Myc and detects overexpressed proteins containing the Myc epitope tag. It recognizes the Myc-tag (Glu-Gln-Lys-Leu-Ile-Ser-Glu-Glu-Asp-Leu) fused to either the amino- or carboxy-termini of targeted proteins in transfected or transformed cells.
Target Information
Myc is a proto-oncogene encoding a nuclear phosphoprotein involved in cell cycle progression, apoptosis, and cellular transformation. The protein forms a heterodimer with MAX, binding to the E-box DNA consensus sequence to regulate gene transcription. Gene amplification is common in various human cancers. Translocations involving Myc are associated with Burkitt lymphoma and multiple myeloma. Translation may initiate from both upstream non-AUG (CUG) and downstream AUG start sites, producing two isoforms with distinct N-termini.
