Target Information

LC3B (Autophagy Marker Light Chain 3B, MAP1A/MAP1B LC3 B) in humans is encoded by the gene MAP1LC3B (Microtubule-associated proteins 1A/1B light chain 3B).
LC3B is associated with microtubule assembly and plays an important role in neurogenesis.
Studies indicate LC3B is vital in autophagy — a process involving bulk degradation of cytoplasmic components.
Three human LC3 isoforms undergo post-translational modifications during autophagy.
Macroautophagy, the major inducible pathway for cytoplasmic turnover, is responsible for degradation of active cytoplasmic enzymes and organelles during nutrient starvation.
This process involves formation of double-membrane autophagosomes that fuse with lysosomes, releasing autophagic bodies for degradation.
LC3B mediates interactions between microtubules and cytoskeletal components and may be involved in cancer, aging, metabolic, neurodegenerative, and cardiovascular/pulmonary diseases.
