Target Information
Caspase 8 (CASP8) is a cysteine-aspartic acid protease involved in apoptosis execution. It exists as an inactive proenzyme that requires proteolytic processing to form an active heterodimeric enzyme. Caspase 8 interacts with FADD through its death effector domain and activates downstream caspases, including Caspase 9, committing the cell to apoptosis. It is implicated in neurodegenerative diseases such as Huntington’s disease and reacts with Jurkat cells and Tonsil. Overexpression induces apoptosis, which can be inhibited by ICE family-specific inhibitors. Multiple alternatively spliced variants exist, though not all have been fully characterized.
