Target Information
Two distinct signaling pathways activate the host innate immunity against viral infection. One pathway depends on Toll-like receptors (TLRs), while the other uses RNA helicase RIG-I to detect intracellular viral double-stranded RNA.
MAVS is a mitochondrial membrane protein essential for IFN-β signaling, recruiting IRF-3 to RIG-I and activating NF-κB. It interacts with innate immune components such as TRIF, TRAF2, TRAF6, and kinases IKK-α, IKK-β, and IKK-ι.
Cleavage of MAVS by Hepatitis C virus protease allows viral immune evasion. Multiple MAVS isoforms are known.
