Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)은 class III intermediate filament 단백질 계열에 속합니다. GFAP는 중추신경계의 성상세포(astrocytes)와 특정 astroglia, 말초 신경계의 위성세포 및 비수초성 슈반세포에서 강하게 발현됩니다. 또한 신경줄기세포에서도 높은 수준으로 발현됩니다. GFAP 항체는 astrocytic 세포를 표지하는 데 유용하며, 다양한 뇌종양(astrocytic cell 유래)에서도 GFAP 발현이 높게 나타납니다. GFAP는 수정체 상피, 간의 Kupffer 세포, 일부 침샘 종양 세포, 적혈구에서도 보고되었습니다. GFAP는 발달 과정에서 astrocytes와 다른 glial 세포를 구분하는 마커로 사용됩니다. GFAP 유전자의 돌연변이는 Alexander disease(희귀한 성상세포 질환)를 유발하며, 대체적 스플라이싱으로 여러 isoform을 형성합니다.
