CDKL5 (Cyclin-dependent kinase-like 5), also known as STK9, is a serine/threonine kinase associated with X-linked infantile spasm syndrome (ISSX), X-linked West syndrome, and Rett syndrome (RTT).
CDKL5 regulates nuclear speckle morphology by modulating phosphorylation of splicing regulatory proteins, influencing pre-mRNA processing and splicing factor dynamics.
Mutations in CDKL5 are a major cause of infantile spasms and early epileptic seizures, particularly in female patients.
