Specificity: Recognises the extracellular domain of the Insulin Receptor alpha.

Target Information

Biological actions of insulin and IGF-1 are mediated by their respective cell surface receptor tyrosine kinases that regulate multiple signaling pathways through activation of phosphorylation cascades. Insulin/IGF-1 binding to the extracellular domain leads to autophosphorylation of downstream target proteins. These receptors differ in sequence in regions conferring ligand specificity and intracellular signaling domains, resulting in distinct functional outcomes. Defects in the insulin receptor are associated with insulin resistance syndromes, while IGF-1R defects may cause growth retardation. Both signaling cascades are implicated in cancer development.
