Beclin 1은 자가포식(autophagy)에 중심적인 역할을 하는 단백질로, 인지질인산화효소(PI3K) 복합체의 핵심 구성 요소로 작용합니다.
PI3KC3-C1 복합체는 자가포식소체의 형성(initiation)에, PI3KC3-C2 복합체는 자가포식소체의 성숙(maturation) 및 엔도사이토시스(endocytosis)에 관여합니다.
