Target Information
Catenin alpha-1 associates with the cytoplasmic domain of various cadherins. These catenin-cadherin complexes connect to the actin filament network, playing a key role in cell adhesion. It can associate with both E- and N-cadherins. While initially thought to mediate direct linkage to actin, later studies suggest CTNNA1 does not bind F-actin in the complex, indicating a different linkage mechanism. The homodimeric form may regulate actin filament assembly and inhibit actin branching by competing with the Arp2/3 complex, thus contributing to cell differentiation.
