TTBK1 is a member of the casein kinase 1 superfamily, functioning as a neuron-specific serine/threonine and tyrosine kinase. It regulates the phosphorylation of tau, a protein that stabilizes microtubule assemblies. Genetic variants in this gene are associated with Alzheimer’s disease, and TTBK1 is also linked to other disorders such as Childhood-Onset Schizophrenia and Spinocerebellar Ataxia 11.
