Target Information
The GSTZ1 gene belongs to the glutathione S-transferase (GSTs) super-family, encoding multifunctional enzymes involved in detoxification of electrophilic molecules such as carcinogens, mutagens, and therapeutic drugs through conjugation with glutathione. It also plays a role in the catabolism of phenylalanine and tyrosine. Defects in this enzyme may cause metabolic disorders including alkaptonuria, phenylketonuria, and tyrosinaemia. Multiple transcript variants encode different protein isoforms.
