Target Information
The GSTZ1 gene belongs to the glutathione S-transferase (GSTs) superfamily, encoding multifunctional enzymes involved in detoxification of electrophilic molecules such as carcinogens, mutagens, and therapeutic drugs through conjugation with glutathione. This enzyme also plays an important role in the catabolism of phenylalanine and tyrosine. Defects in this enzyme may lead to metabolic disorders including alkaptonuria, phenylketonuria, and tyrosinaemia. Multiple transcript variants encode different isoforms of this protein.
