Antibody detects endogenous levels of total CD86.
Target Information
CD86 is one of two ligands (the other CD80) for CTLA4 and CD28. It acts as a costimulatory molecule during antigen presentation, providing necessary T-cell activation signals. In the absence of sufficient co-stimulation, tolerance can be induced. CD86 is a type I membrane protein of the immunoglobulin superfamily expressed by antigen-presenting cells. It binds CD28 and cytotoxic T-lymphocyte-associated protein 4 (CTLA-4) on T cells, regulating activation and immune response. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms. Dysregulation of CD86 has been linked to diseases such as gallbladder squamous cell carcinoma and myocarditis.
