Target Information
Alpha Tubulin forms a heterodimer with beta tubulin, each approximately 55 kDa in size. This heterodimer is the fundamental unit of microtubules, essential components of the eukaryotic cytoskeleton. Microtubules provide structural support, facilitate intracellular transport, and play a crucial role in mitosis.
Multiple alpha and beta tubulin genes are conserved across species. The alpha tubulin gene is homologous to the mouse and rat Tuba1 gene, with expression predominantly observed in differentiated neuronal cells.
