Target Information
EIF4EBP1 is a translation repressor protein that interacts directly with eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4E (eIF4E), a limiting component of the multisubunit complex recruiting 40S ribosomal subunits to the 5' end of mRNAs. Interaction with eIF4E inhibits complex assembly and represses translation. This protein becomes phosphorylated in response to signals such as UV irradiation and insulin signaling, leading to dissociation from eIF4E and activation of mRNA translation.
