Target Information

IKBKE (IKKi/IKKε) is an activator of nuclear factor-kappa-B (NF-κB). Overexpression of IKBKE has been observed in breast cancer cells, and suppression of IKBKE induces cell death.
NF-κB is a ubiquitous transcription factor and an essential mediator of gene expression during immune and inflammatory responses.
It is associated with IκB proteins in the cytoplasm, which inhibit NF-κB activity. IκB is phosphorylated by the IKK complex containing IKK-α, IKK-β, and IKK-γ.
A novel molecule in this complex, IKK-ι/IKK-i (IKK epsilon), is required for NF-κB activation by PMA and T cell receptors but not by TNF-α and IL-1.
IKK-ι/IKK-i is expressed in various tissues and is inducible by TNF-α, IL-1, and LPS.
