Target Information

Mucin glycoprotein is a Sialyl Lewis A structure synthesized from type 1 blood group precursor chains and present in individuals expressing Lewis A and/or Lewis B blood group antigens.
In normal tissues, sialyl Lewis A antigen is found in ductal epithelium of the breast, kidney, salivary gland, and sweat glands. Its expression is greatly enhanced in serum and in most gastrointestinal (GI) carcinoma cells, including adenocarcinomas of the stomach, intestine, and pancreas.
Preoperative elevated CA19-9 levels in stage I pancreatic carcinoma patients typically return to normal following surgery. Serial CA19-9 measurement can predict recurrence prior to radiographic or clinical detection.
