Product Specific Information
MA1-219 Prom1 antibody detects Prom1 (CD133) by Western blot and immunofluorescence.
Prom1 is detected by Western blot at approximately 130 kDa.
Target Information
CD133 (AC133) is a 97 kDa glycoprotein with five transmembrane domains that appears as a 120 kDa band on protein gels due to glycosylation. It is a cell surface marker expressed by immature hematopoietic stem cells but not by mature blood cells.
CD133 also serves as a marker for neural and embryonic stem cells and is expressed in certain cancers, including leukemias and brain tumors. Low-level expression can be detected in kidney, pancreas, placenta, and fetal liver. Mutations in this gene are associated with retinitis pigmentosa and Stargardt disease.
CD133 expression is driven by at least five alternative promoters in a tissue-dependent manner, and multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
