Product Specific Information
- Human BDNF shares 100% amino acid sequence identity with both mouse and rat BDNF.
- Reconstitute with 0.2 mL of distilled water to yield a concentration of 500 µg/mL.
Target Information
BDNF (Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor) is a member of the neurotrophin family. It is synthesized as pre-proBDNF, followed by cleavage to proBDNF, which is biologically active and secreted along with the mature form.
BDNF is widely expressed in the central nervous system and signals mainly through the tyrosine kinase receptor TrkB, and also binds to the lower-affinity receptor p75-NTR.
It promotes neuronal survival and differentiation, plays a critical role in memory formation and synaptic regulation, and is necessary for survival of striatal neurons.
Reduced expression of BDNF has been observed in Alzheimer’s and Huntington’s disease patients and may be involved in stress response and mood disorder regulation.
