Isoleucine-tRNA synthetase는 class-I 아미노아실-tRNA synthetase 계열에 속하며, 자가면역질환인 다발성근염/피부근염(polymyositis/dermatomyositis)에서 자가항체의 표적 단백질로 확인되었습니다. 두 가지 대체 스플라이스 변이체가 보고되었으며, 이는 서로 다른 5' UTR을 나타냅니다.
