CKS1B 단백질은 cyclin-dependent kinase의 촉매 소단위와 결합하며, 이들의 생물학적 기능에 필수적입니다. HeLa 세포에서 CKS1B mRNA는 세포 주기 동안 서로 다른 패턴으로 발현되며, 이는 해당 단백질의 특수한 역할을 반영합니다. 최소 두 가지 전사 변이가 확인되었으며, 그 중 하나만이 단백질을 암호화하는 것으로 보입니다.
