Product Specific Information
- Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): Incubate antibody for 30 min at room temperature.
- Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA (pH 9.0) for 45 min at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 min.
Target Information
Calponin is a thin filament-associated protein involved in the regulation and modulation of smooth muscle contraction. It binds to actin, calmodulin, troponin C, and tropomyosin.
Calponin is expressed in smooth muscle and tissues containing significant amounts of smooth muscle. Two isoforms exist with molecular weights of 34 kDa and 29 kDa.
The 29 kDa form is mainly expressed in the urogenital tract. Calponin expression is observed in myoepithelial cells from benign and malignant breast lesions.
It stains smooth muscle, myoepithelial cells, myofibroblasts, keratinocytes, and nerve fibers.
It helps identify myoepithelial cells in breast lesions and differentiate breast collagenous spherulosis (positive) from adenoid cystic carcinoma.
Adenoid cystic carcinoma in salivary gland tumors is calponin positive.
