MAP2 (Microtubule Associated Protein 2)는 두 가지 고분자량 형태(MAP2a 및 MAP2b)와 저분자량 형태로 존재합니다. MAP2의 발현은 발달 단계에서 조절되며, 단일 유전자의 대체 스플라이싱으로 다양한 형태가 생성됩니다. MAP2는 신경발생 과정에서 필수적인 미세소관 조립에 관여합니다.
쥐와 생쥐에서 유사한 유전자의 산물은 신경세포 수상돌기에 풍부하게 존재하는 세포골격 단백질로, 수상돌기의 형태 안정화 및 결정에 중요한 역할을 합니다.
