Target Information
The MRP1 gene encodes a member of the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter superfamily. These proteins mediate the transport of various molecules across cell membranes. MRP1 belongs to the MRP subfamily associated with multidrug resistance. It functions as a multispecific organic anion transporter, handling substrates such as oxidized glutathione, cysteinyl leukotrienes, and activated aflatoxin B1. It also transports glucuronides and sulfate conjugates of steroid hormones and bile salts. Alternative splicing results in several variants that preserve the original open reading frame.
