Target Information
The HSP70 family is a set of highly conserved proteins induced by various biological stresses, including heat stress, across organisms.
Human HSP70 family members include:
- HSP70: Strongly inducible and constitutively expressed in primate cells
- HSP72: Induced exclusively under stress conditions
- HSC70 (Cognate protein): 72 kDa, constitutively expressed, involved in uncoating clathrin-coated vesicles
- GRP78 (BiP): 78 kDa, localized in endoplasmic reticulum
- p75 (HSP75): 75 kDa, found within mitochondria
HSC70 (also known as HSC71, HSC73, HSP73, p72, prp73) is constitutively expressed and slightly heat-inducible. It binds to clathrin light chain loops to promote uncoating and can also bind the cytoskeleton, facilitating rearrangements. HSC70 stimulates lysosomal degradation of intracellular proteins and retards aggregation and folding of mitochondrial precursor proteins in vitro.
