Product Specific Information
This antibody recognizes the porcine CD61 cell surface antigen, also known as platelet glycoprotein IIIa. CD61 is present on the megakaryocyte/platelet lineage, granulocytes, cells from the monocyte/macrophage lineage, and endothelial cells.
Target Information
CD61 (GPIIIa, ITGB3) is a glycoprotein found on megakaryocytes, platelets, and their precursors. It plays a role in platelet aggregation and serves as a receptor for fibrinogen, fibronectin, von Willebrand factor, and vitronectin. CD61 (105 kDa) associates with either the alpha IIb integrin (CD41) or the alpha V integrin (CD51) at the cell surface.
CD61 is expressed on:
- Platelets and megakaryocytes (with CD41)
- Endothelial cells, monocytes, and osteoclasts (with CD51)
It participates in cell adhesion and signaling. Dysfunction of CD61 is associated with Glanzmann Thrombasthenia and Platelet type-16 Bleeding Disorder.
