Product Specific Information
This antibody recognizes the porcine CD61 cell surface antigen, also known as platelet glycoprotein IIIa. CD61 is present on the megakaryocyte/platelet lineage, granulocytes, cells from the monocyte/macrophage lineage and endothelial cells.
Target Information
CD61 (GPIIIa, ITGB3) is a glycoprotein found on megakaryocytes, platelets and their precursors. It plays a role in platelet aggregation and acts as a receptor for fibrinogen, fibronectin, von Willebrand factor, and vitronectin.
CD61 associates with either alpha IIb integrin (CD41) or alpha V integrin (CD51) at the cell surface. It is expressed on platelets, megakaryocytes, endothelial cells, monocytes, and osteoclasts.
Like other integrins, CD61 participates in cell adhesion and cell-surface mediated signaling.
Diseases associated with CD61 dysfunction include Glanzmann Thrombasthenia and Platelet type-16 Bleeding Disorder.
