Target Information
CD11b (integrin alpha-M, ITGAM, integrin alpha-X, ITGAX) is a 165 kDa adhesion molecule that associates non-covalently with integrin beta-2 (CD18).
The CD11b/CD18 heterodimeric complex (integrin alpha-M beta-2, Mac-1, CR3) is expressed on monocytes/macrophages, granulocytes, activated lymphocytes, subsets of NK and dendritic cells, and microglia.
It functions as a receptor for ICAM-1, ICAM-2, ICAM-4, CD14, CD50, CD23, heparin, iC3b, fibrinogen, and Factor X, mediating critical cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions.
Expression levels vary among tissues and increase during monocyte maturation. CD11b is commonly used as a microglial marker in nervous tissue.
Dysfunction of CD11b is associated with systemic lupus erythematosus and ITGAM-related susceptibility to autoimmune diseases.
